I know that some on here have a bit of free time and pretty good searching skills per the internet. I need some help...
Sam has recently become enamored with .22 LR bench rest competition. She has been shooting a box stock Ruger 10/22, doing very well if I may say so, but she needs more.
The 3 or 4 guys who have been beating her consistantly are shooting custom 10/22's and she feels the need to level the field. She has asked me to build her a race gun.
Now, I am fully capable of the technical end and the actual build. The problem I am having is the stock. She does not like a thumbhole stock, no matter how "cool" it looks. She also does not like a straight stock (think Winchester 94). She has also decided she wants light blonde (I know... it must be a girl thing) furniture with silver/stainless hardware. Finally, she is a left handed shooter.
I can not find such a stock anywhere. What would probably be best would be an inletted, unfinished blank in a light blonde wood. My grip maker can finish the stock any way she wants it, the problem is finding it.
I thought about a laminated stock but finding a light one with no dark accents is like finding a set of rune stones in a Baptist Church....
Richards Gunstocks offers unfinished stocks but I choose not to deal with them. #1, they tell me there is a minimum of 14 weeks waiting list, and #2, apparently they get their blanks offshore to keep down the cost and the poor quality comes out. I've spoken to 3 people who tell me they were doing the final sanding and opened up air bubbles in the laminate.
I spoke to the company and they said "well, even if that happens, we have a good warranty so just send it back for replacement. Let's see.... an additional 14 weeks of waiting and what of the work that was done up to the point of returning the stock? I think not!
My point is, if anyone sees a site or knows of a site that might have what I'm searching for, please let me know.....
