The only reason I ask is I have got a Winchester 97 but it has 2 barrels bother matching to the receiver. Both are 28in but one has a adjustable choke. My question is how much would it hurt the value of the set if I cut the plain 28 inch barrel? seeing as i do have 2. also a point that might be of some concern the front bead sight on the plain barrel is gone and replaced with a green fiber. Any insight would be appreciated.

I do not believe Winchester Model 1897 shotguns came from the factory with 'adjustable chokes'. In fact, I know they didn't. So, you have, from a collector standpoint, two 'ruined' barrels. The fixed choke barrel can easily be returned to factory spec. Not so much for the 'choked' barrel.

Were it mine and I just had to cut a barrel, I cut the barrel with the aftermarket choke.

Stevejet offers another viable option.
