I took my tests in spring of '69 for the USAF, and in October I got drafted. Called up my Air force recruiter to see what my options were, and he told me he had no openings! Next day he called back to say another guy wanted to wait, and I could have his place IF I was willing to go to basic in 10 days! So I signed up, and was gone the same month.
Basic at Lackland AFB in San Antonio late 1969, then on to Tech School at Shepard Field, Wichita Falls. Then McCord AFB Tacoma, Wa. Hickam AFB Hawaii, and Elmendorf AFB Alaska, and finally Travis AFB in Fairfield, Ca.
Got out in 1973, as E5 Loadmaster on 141 cargo jets.
