Here in Florida:
1. Hunting a .270cal Rifle. Handgun a .44mag Revolver. :---
2. Defense .38+P or a .45ACP. Carry a .380cal backup only.
3.When you reload you can plink with what ever you want. ;)

1. Decades since I've hunted, used my .30-.30
2. .40 caliber Glock subcompact
3. I like my .380 Bersa for plinking. real accurate, and 'bites' a little more than a .22

Don't/can't hunt big game any more. When I did .308 was my favorite rifle in a Remington bolt action.
If I'm thinning out the squirrel population I use a circa 1960 Mossberg Golden Palimino w/Weaver 4X. Tack driver.
Shotgun: Remington 1200 in 12 gauge.
Large carry: .45 acp (1911 style)
Mid carry: Kahr .40
Concealed carry/backup: .380
Ultra Concealed: NAA .22 mini mag

In south GA a lot depends on the weather. It hit 82 earlier this week. Next Tuesday night the forecast is for 31 low.
I always carry something, even if it's the NAA .22 mag.
In bad neighborhoods I carry a .40 or .45 and wear enough to conceal, even if I have to sweat- or I don't go there. :---

I like the 45 acp first. All the lower pressure big bores like the 44 special and the 45 Long Colt.

I shoot more 22 that anything so for just plinking and all around shooting I suspect the 22 caliber is the leader with most folks. Not for carry but for general shooting fun.

Hunting - don't go after deer/elk anymore. Used .308 to .30-'06 when I did. Like to hunt coyote with .22-250AI or .243. The .223 and the .22-250AI are my favorites for prairie dogs. For javelina, either .357 Mag or .41 Mag rifle and revolver.

CCW - .40 S&W, .45 ACP or .380 (especially in summer). Sometimes .38 Spl.

Plinking - .22 LR (rifle and pistol) and .223 Rem. or .357 Mag for rifle

Hunting: I prefer .308 for deer, except in shotgun only zones (pretty much everywhere near where I live). 12-gauge shotgun for turkey, pheasant, critters and pretty much anything else.

CCW: Not legal in my state. Anyone of you like to run for guvnr' up here? We sure could use a real one ...

Plinkin': Glock 22 and Walther PPK/S. Although me pistol collection should be growing in the coming months.

I love the 9mm round.
FMJ ammo is still semi-inexpensive to plink with.
Carry Winchester Ranger +P+ for self defense.
Mean stuff.
Performs like a .45 when it opens up.

Hunting four legged creatures, 6.5x55. Carry? 10 rounds in 40 cal, or 16 in 9mm. I'm still working on concealing the SIG P220 SAO with the M-Tac holster. Then I'll be packing the 45.

Other than politicians and armored vehicles, what is there in Virginia that deserves a .416??? Brutal is the right word!

been to other countries hunting. in africa the minimum caliber for dangerous game is .375 which is not enough imo.most guides carry 458 lotts or larger. just like self defense (which it can turn into) always carry enough gun and ammo.
