I've been looking for a cheap tool box or tackle box to store ammo in, but things I've found are either not cheap IMO or they are too small.

I will be storing my ammo in the boxes not loose so ammo cans are no good for me. I usually have around 1,000 round of .40 (in 10 boxes of 100) & now I have a few hundred rounds of .22 to add to that & some boxes of .223 & SG shells as soon as I order those guns.

I prefer whatever I use to have a provision for a pad lock as well.

I store all I can in plastic cartridge cases. When all are full I use ammo cans just like Mr Gunrur. They work great and are cheap enough at the Army surplus store. I think I gave $10 bucks for three. :D

Same here. Military surplus ammo cans---lots of 'em! I do have a case lot of 7.62x39 which is still in the original wooden crate, 20rd boxes sealed in plastic. Cans are up off the floor on wooden shelves and those little bags of dessicant are in each and every can.

Ammo cans are the way to go. I keep all my ammo in plastic containers of 50 and they fit perfectly in ammo cans.
