Wait...Facebook Is Forming A 'Supreme Court' That Will Weigh In On Content Moderation

There are legitimate concerns about bias within social media. Tweets are hidden, innocuous content is flagged, and people are banned and de-platformed for arbitrary reasons. All of these instances happen almost exclusively to conservatives. At the same time, there are also issues with posts with graphic violence. And by that, I mean people live streaming murders. The New Zealand mosque attack was livestreamed on Facebook and the link was up for quite a bit until it was taking down. The harrowing video, which was roughly a half-hour long, showed a white supremacist gunning down scores of Muslims. So, how can these tech giants be more reactive to such posts? Well, they’re creating something that will certainly have conservatives on edge: a supreme court (via WaPo) [emphasis mine]:

Should Facebook take down a doctored video of Nancy Pelosi? Ban a conspiracy theorist like Alex Jones?

These are the kind of content moderation quandaries that have been vexing the world's largest social network, and after years of controversies and missteps, the company says it can't make these decisions alone. That's why Facebook has been building a “Supreme Court” of independent experts that would weigh in on the company’s toughest content moderation decisions — and it’s hope is that it will one day govern decisions across Silicon Valley.

“It's just going to impact our platforms, but the hope absolutely is that at some point this is going to be an industry-wide body,” said Facebook public policy manager Shaarik Zafar at a panel on free expression online yesterday at the New America Foundation. “At that point you would have some type of consistency across platforms.”

Facebook’s plans highlight that without government regulation, technology companies have been left to develop their own solutions to policing troublesome content. Critics say the companies waited too long to address many issues related to harmful content, and the independent oversight board is one way that Facebook is going on the offensive after broad public backlash.

---

Francella Ochillo, a digital rights advocate and executive director of the nonprofit Next Century Cities, says that industry leaders — not policymakers — are going to have to develop best practices for themselves.

“Truthfully by the time everyone gets their hands around the issue of the day, we’ve already moved on to a new issue,” Ochillo said on the same panel. “Right now I don’t think the government has the expertise or capacity.”

She also said she didn’t know that government regulation would help address online free expression problems.

That’s why creating an industry-led body might be one solution. Facebook says the oversight board will operate with complete independence, and Zafar said the company plans to follow the recommendations of the board even when it disagrees with them.

But Facebook's promises have been met with skepticism from critics who see the board as a public relations move or a means for Facebook to shirk responsibility from making tough decisions about content it hosts.

Facebook recently asked other tech policy experts to weigh in on its plans.

We have members of Congress, one of which, the late Ted Stevens, who described the Internet as a series of tubes. The various committee hearings with Mark Zuckerberg have only exposed that if government wrote new regulations, it would be an incoherent and antiquated mess. Then again, given the liberal bias, not so sure how a Supreme Court will operate. It shall be another fight waged at some point down the line. Leaving out the political aspect, the notion of some board being the voice of God on content issues should draw vast amounts of healthy skepticism.

One of the biggest difficulties we see is the elimination of "resources of truth". In other words, the left has been slowly removing bits and pieces of truth from history and also rewriting history. Once "was", is no longer; and if it still is, it's wrong, racist, partially false and so on. When you begin to politically label or filter information, based on opinion (group think) that is bought and paid for with leftist dollars, inappropriate censorship becomes reality. We no longer can verify truth because truth has been redefined by political correctness; which is slowly removing history. Examples are the Confederate flag, statues, books, words and so much more; all being redefined. So when someone says anything on social network it cannot be verified by what we historically know but now must be verified by what is politically known (political correctness).

Once what was, is no longer. What is good has become evil and what is evil has become good.

We fought a barbaric ISIS in the Middle East. One thing they did when they attacked and destroyed a city or town was to remove/destroy all historical references. What we fought, we have become. It's working....

...Wake Up America!

Let it all play out and let the viewers determine if it is worth watching/reading

So, in summary, Facebook, Google, Twitter, etc. will appoint a bunch of hand-selected, narrow minded, intolerant, leftists to an independent board and, by calling them independent, will remove any oversight or limits on their power to restrict free speech. I wonder how that will turn out.

Anytime anything is distorted or deleted from anywhere is an injustice to all who want to know what is going on in the World. If is a murder or beheading no matter where, it should be left up to viewers to decide to watch it or not. That is why there is a channel and off button on whatever is being seen or heard. I don't need anyone telling me what to watch or hear as I will make those calls as I might learn from it, so I won't make those mistakes.

Why is it that when I was a kid (more than 7 decades ago) deciding what was "offensive" seemed pretty easy? It seemed like almost everybody understood the general ideas of etiquette and decorum. If something was questionable, I could simply ask my mother or grandmother. Remember, these were the days when the words of Emily Post meant something.

But this is not about that kind of manners or civility. This is purely about controlling the message and propaganda. It's not about opening a door for a lady, it's about destroying the idea that there's such a thing as a lady - since the goal is that we're all "workers".

And they will make sure to stock this "court" with proven leftist that will enforce the leftist agenda.

Facebook, Google, and the other social media companies can not be trusted!
I play on Face Book because it more fun than watching my brain turn into pudding watching TV. I call it Screaming at the Windshield, you know like when someone cuts you off while you are driving. It reminds me of my child hood reading the Sunday comic strip in the news paper. Many of my post are intended to aggravate liberals, as a result I spend a lot of time in FB Jail. There isn't any reliable fact check anymore, so like TV news, all the Face Book post are subject to questions of veracity. The current history books are nothing but poorly written fiction.

I don't think you need to wait to see how it will turn out. It's happening right in front of your eyes.

You don't have to make any mistakes for it to impact you. Everyone else is....

Will one of you gentlemen post this on FB and see what happens since I don't do FB or Twitter?

Divorce agreement
DIVORCE AGREEMENT

WRITTEN BY A YOUNG COLLEGE STUDENT

The person who wrote this is a college (law) student. Perhaps there is hope for us after all.

DIVORCE AGREEMENT

THIS IS INCREDIBLY WELL PUT, AND I CAN HARDLY BELIEVE IT'S WRITTEN BY A YOUNG PERSON, A STUDENT!!! WHATEVER HE RUNS FOR, I'LL VOTE FOR HIM.

----------------------------- ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ------------

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al: We have stuck together since the late 1950's for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course.

Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is our separation agreement:

--Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

--We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them.

--You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.

--Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military.

--We'll take the nasty, smelly oil industry and the coal mines, and you can go with wind, solar and biodiesel.

--You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell. You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them.

--We'll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street.

--You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless, homeboys, hippies, druggies and illegal aliens.

--We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEOs and ********.

--We'll keep Bill O ' Reilly, and Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .

--You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.

--You can have the peaceniks and war protesters.

-- When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.

--We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.

--You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U..N. but we will no longer be paying the bill.

--We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Volt and Leaf you can find.

--You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors.

--We'll keep "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "The National Anthem."

--I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute "Imagine", "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", "Kum Ba Ya" or "We Are the World".

--We'll practice trickle-down economics and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot.

--Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you might think about which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.
.
Sincerely,

John J. Wall

Law Student and an American

P.S. Also, please take George Clooney, Ted Turner, Sean Penn, Martin & Charlie Sheen, Barbara Streisand, and ( Hanoi ) Jane Fonda with you.

P.S.S. And you won't have to press 1 for English when you call our country.

Up until 2 weeks ago I ran a humorous meme page on FaceBook that I'd started with about 40 members and grew it to over 11K in 2.5 years before I quit all social media. From the start I went out of my way to avoid political posts and tried to only put up things that were truly funny. I ended up in FB jail because I violated community standards for hate speech with these 2 memes:

Text Font Line Icon
Transport Mode of transport Vehicle Car Vehicle door

The "All men are dogs" meme was the one that got me in hot water first, I contested FB's ruling and was told I stood to have my page taken down and I would be under continued scrutiny. With this in mind I knew I was walking a thin line and thought nothing was controversial a month later I posted the "Dishwasher" meme. Within a minute of it going up I receive notice I was suspended for X amount of days. I responded by taking down my FB account and haven't looked back since.

FB profiles all its users, if you dig around in your account you can find where you've been categorized by political beliefs based on your online history, I was listed as very conservative and have no doubt that played into their decision to censor and scrutinize me. When FB sees no problem with pages such as "**** Trump" but thinks a dishwasher meme is hate speech there's no reasoning with them, they answer to no one and have no problem removing conservatives from their service. FB will never give conservatives a fair shake because they see no problem with their current attitude towards us. In fact, I only foresee things getting worse as they share our data across social media platforms. Knowing I was being targeted and no longer welcome I turned my meme page over to another Admin and pulled the plug on FB. I've appealed FB decisions only to have things go from bad to worse because I contested their initial ruling. Adding a "Supreme Court" won't change a thing in that Liberal circle jerk of group think.

Don't worry FaceBook user, the Gestapo will review your case and let you know their findings.

/Rant over
//Sorry
///Not sorry.

They all need to be broken up ala Sherman Anti-trust Act - they are monopolies in the worst way; they are driven not only by profits but by political power and influence.
