I purchased a Vortex Sparc II RDS from Brownells for what I thought was a reasonable price. When I received the sight, I followed the instructions to remove the cap to the battery compartment, install the battery, and tighten the cap. The sight turned on as soon as I put the battery in and holding the up (power) button for 5 seconds would not power it off. I called Vortex and they suggested new batteries. Same results with the new battery. Talked to Brownells, they sent me a new sight over night which was pretty cool... Until I tried to install a brand new battery in the second sight and it had the same exact problem. Up and down intensity functions do not work. Holding up (power) for 5+ seconds does not work. Battery must be removed to turn off the sight.
What am I doing wrong here? I'm new to owning a RDS in but have used them before. Any suggestions/common problems for this issue or should I just get a refund and choose a different sight? If so, what optic would you put on an AR-15 (Springfield Saint w/ Free Float Hand guard) that would be primarily used for putting holes in paper at 50-200 yards?
Thanks for any input, really stressing out over this because I want to sight in my new rifle and enjoy it already, iron sights are only so fun. Might just go to a local spot for the credibility of seeing something function before I purchase it.
