I have a buddy that was there and told me about how big the Russian ships were. Said he was on a Destroyer stairing up at some huge commie boat. He also said it was a very intense standoff.

I did see many Russian ships but they were mostly old rusty trawlers with enough radio antennas to inform mother Russia every thing we did. They would come close enough that we could wave to their sailors. We were soon forbidden from doing this as being to friendly. I suspect they didn't want to there any more than we did.

I was on the USS Ranger CVA 61 in the middle of the gulf, Aug thru Oct 1964. It was during this time that the second PT boat attack took place
