A person was taken into custody for shooting a toddler with a BB gun Wednesday afternoon in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
Paramedics responded to reports of a gunshot victim in the 1900 block of North Pulaski Road and took a 2-year-old girl to Children’s Memorial Hospital in serious condition, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva. The shooting occurred about 2:45 p.m.
"She was shot with a BB gun but is supposed to be fine," Roccasalva said.
Police News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor said one person was taken into custody for the shooting, but no charges have been filed as of 6:20 p.m.
Police recovered a weapon, Taylor said.
Wow, didn't think a BB gun could do so much. Hope the girl is ok.

Scary, those things can hurt.
Probably do a little damage to a todler, mostly mental trauma, unless you got it in the eye.

BB guns can cause a lot of trouble; think about it, a shot to the eye, mouth, back/spine, especially a young child. Not to state the obvious, that is why they are called guns. My brother used to shoot at me all the time when we were kids, maybe that explains some of my issues:crazy: , the BB's hurt, and yes they do break the skin if shot at a relatively (no pun intended) close range.

Yep, todays BB guns are not like the Red Ryder of the 1950's, which has about 300 fps of power and would not break the skin of a human, but would kill birds.

Todays BB guns have the power of a 22 rifle.

the high power ones use .22 pellets
I had a beeman that shot 5mm lead pellets and it would zap about anything you shot with it. Took out a large mercury vapor solid glass streetlight with it many years ago and was totally surprised. That was a stupid move and was a long time ago.

Hey, Lowepro, what part of the country do you hail from and do you work for Lowe's???

Yikes. Hope the little girls okay..
I guess I never thought about BB guns really hurting people...just seem like kid's toys. Shoot, I had a couple when I was in grade school. :nonod:

Parents, we gotta educate the kids.

It is possible to hurt someone with a slingshot, a rubber band, a spear gun, fish hook, a bow and arrow, cross bow, blowgun, nail-gun, and many other tools.

We are entering into a period where it seems to be a surprise when people do something stupid and everyone looks around for someone to blame or sue. Society needs to wake up and take a whiff of reality.

There's a video out there of a guy hunting wild boar with an air rifle.

He kills two of them. It's a real shock to hear the 'pfffft' of an air rifle and see a boar bite the dust.
