RIP Tina.
I used to sing your songs while riding my bicycle as a kid.

My future wife and I were fortunate to attend the "Ike & Tina Turner Review" concert in the Salt Palace in SLC, Utah in 1971. I can't even guess how many TV sets she de-tuned (no cable then) during her appearances on variety shows in the early 1970's.

I don't really miss a lot of celebrities or think the world will miss them but I do her. Was a star as part of a duo but got out due to abuse and became a star on her own. She was black-- overcame that. She was female -- overcame that. She was older, 40ish -- overcame that.

She was probably a flaming liberal. I don't know what her politics were though and that's the way it should be. She didn't use her celebrity status to pontificate she just entertained.

Five decades. Her energy never subsided. She was a great one.

She earned whatever she had.

When people die you hear more about them. Tina had a stroke and failed kidneys that her husband offered to give her one that she resisted, because he was younger. She chose to live in Europe. She felt the fans were more welcoming and she felt more at home there though she never spoke the language. And again she never talked bad about America.

I'm finding I am truly saddened. Her hits (which I liked) have been in the background most of my life. Her music will continue, but I am saddened by her loss.

I thought I heard her say in an interview Americans were lazy but what she really said was Africans were lazy. That really surprised me. She said the food wasn't good. The good people of Africa weren't inspirational.

I hear a lot of American blacks talk about slavery and how bad this country is. They speak proudly about the motherland that they've never been to. Tina must have had some fallout over her statements but the country wasn't quite woke yet.
