Mint in box 1980s Ruger GS33-ps issue to USPS but destroyed. The GS stands for Government Service and the - PS is Postal Service. Its even etched under grips. Most were used and or destroyed. Has box papers and all. Only shot thru 3 of 6 cylinders. Its verified because its 3 inch thru Ruger and serial numbers match up on gun and box and it has no model number markings. And only 3 inch was made for the postal inspectors.

Did I get a find?

Issued to Postal Inspectors. Its the only run of Speed Six revolvers with a 3" barrel.

Probably worth around $1000.00 to the right person, maybe a bit more.

In the world of Ruger, its a score.

Write Ruger and get a factory letter.

Hey, jps38230, welcome to the NGF, from the swamp north of The Swamp.

Congratulations on that great find!

I'm a bit of a "rare duck" collector, myself.

That piece kind of adds a whole new meaning to "Going Postal"...

Let me expand a little.

Your revolver is in NIB condition with paperwork, only test fired at the factory. It is a rare variant of the Speed-Six.

Resale prices for Ruger Security-Six, Speed-Six, etc. series of revolvers have been on the rise recently. Well outstripping the rate of inflation. I see no reason why this will not continue.

In 10 -20 years, given today's rate of resale $ increase, it should be worth a pretty penny.

I'm not a big collector but that one I would collect.

Maybe you can tell us the story of how you came about this piece.

1. I'm 71 years old. I fear I don't have 10 -20 years.

2. Which S&W revolver are you interested in?
