Hey all.

Looking at get a handgun for some protection while hunting. Is the (ported) Taurus .357 magnum going to be too loud? I will not be wearing ear protection while hunting.

Thanks.

Yes.

Any .357, but especially a short barreled, PORTED one.

Try something a little less intense - like a six inch .45 Colt.

Yeah, my .357 Taurus 627 Tracker six inch ported barrel is LOUD. First time I fired it, I was'nt wearing any hearing protection, was standing next to the truck, Man, that thing was loud, actully hurt my ears. But it shoots real nice. Was out with the boys,(my son, oldest nephew, and grandson) a couple months ago, when the nephew asks the grandboy if he wants to shoot his Taurus .357. The grandson says YEAH! (atta boy) So the nephew shows him how load, hold, and shoot it, HE loved it. Used up two boxes of ammo in the next hour. The boy is nine, weighs 90 lbs, and yes he was wearing hearing protection.
