I've got 8x18x14", and 6x12x32" morter cans that hold 2 25# bags of grain/legumes.
peas lentils and small white beans cook the fastest, pintos red and garbonzoes take longer.

anyway one can will also hold a pint of extra virgin olive oil, a cup of salt and some spices.

this will feed one person for 1 month and provide complete protien and 2000 calories/day.

to keep it fresh for 20 years or so purge with .5" cube of dry ice wraped in paper towel, with lid on but not clamped, after an hour or so clamp it down.

eat a handfull of dandylions a day for vitamin a and c.

you only need 16 oz grain and 8 oz legume to be complete, so if you store a large number of cans you can double up on grain.

examples

white rice, pinto beans, salt, oil, chili powder, cayene.

whole peas[you can sprout them] whole corn[ you will want a grain grinder], pepper, baking powder, salt, oil, garlic powder.

lentils,pearl barley,fenel,cumin,oil salt

wheat, garbonso, oil, salt, yeast [most will be nonviable in 7 years but you might get lucky, even with 1 in a million surviving you will have 1000's to revive.

more on another thread.

Over the years I have acquired 4 dozen cases of MREs, the oldest ones are good till 2022. That is enough to feed my four person family one meal a day (1500 calories) for 144 days. But I really like the ideas above, will have to try it out.

As this next presidential campaign comes up...and I see how our politicians don't at all seem concerned that we have cities that are more violent and diseased as places like Somolia, it is making these survival tips more and more relevant. taylor has a good tip here...does anyone know of any credible website offers similiar advice for such scenarios?

I don't understand the purge process. What does this do?

Regarding dandylions, are you talking about the greens or the flower? (My mom used to make wine out of them).

Not to my knowledge no. But I will look around. Most of my survival knowledge is confined to wilderness and what not.
