This question has been beat to death but would like to know your opinion...... I am looking to buy a tactical shotgun soon and I have narrowed it down to a Remington 870 or a Mossberg 500/590. I currently have two 870's (one express and one wingmaster) both for hunting. Should i stick with the Remington theme or go with something new???? Let me know your thoughts.

there is more options for the remmy

i personal dont like either one.

ive got a winchester 1300 defender that works great.
I've noticed your a Winchester guy, I also see we have a Mossberg guy on the site. Should I stick with my trend and be the resident Remington guy. :)

Agree, the mossy does have more of a badass factor. The only problem I have with the mossy is the safety position. Either shotgun will have a collapsible stock added and the safety position on the remy works better with a pistol grip. Hmmm...... what to do, what to do.....

I would love to pickup a Benelli but am not about to drop $1,000 on a shotgun. My price limit is $350 for a base model shotgun.

Derek - go with the Remington. I think that the hand/slide position will work better for you once you put a folding stock on the gun.

my biggest beef with them is having to move my firing hand to hit the slide release. my winchester is right were my middle finger can get it.

Mossberg is a good gun for the money. I just love the feel and trust the absolute reliability of the Remington 870. We had them in the AF and I never ever saw one fail (as an instructor, often with completely inexperienced shooters) even thought they were older than dirt and beat to death. There were Ithacas and Wins, also, but they didn't fare as well. We had 'em at the Corrections Dept. where I was also an instructor -- same story. I kept one in my patrol car as a police officer and I'm embarrassed at the lack of care it got. It never failed.

I'm not saying the Mossberg or Winchester won't do the same. I'm saying what the Remington did for me. I do like the Benelli and saw an FBI guy at an NRA Instructor class make one sing. But that's the FBI's budget compared to mine.
