Shooting Comfort Or Concealability

I bought a Kahr CM9 because it's so thin and light and easy for me to conceal. It just doesn't feel right in my hand. I also have a Glock 26 that fits like a glove in my hand and just feels perfect in every way. But it's bulky as is difficult for me to conceal. I also want to be able to carry a backup magazine, but the Glock double-stack magazine is so bulky also. I'm curious how y'all would prioritize the concealability of a handgun and the shooting comfort of a handgun. I'm new to shooting so any input or constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated! Thank y'all!

Well i carry what i can shoot good. The glock sounds like your ticket. I been summer carrying a Taurus spectrum. It's a little pocket gun. Im accurate with for self defense ranges. And it is comfortable to shoot. I like the 1911 platform better. But that is too big for summer carry. I have a baby rock 380 1911. But im still not confident in accuracy with it. Come winter i'll carry my 1911's. Oh and.................. Town House Village Rural area Home

Coalcracker, I appreciate you taking the time to read my post and replying with your insight!
You're welcome.
you can dress around practically any gun if you want to work at it..........

i am lazy and choose a pocket gun.........to those ends, the more you practice with what you got, the more you just might like it......especially if you always have it on you and its not left at home because you did not want to dress around the gun, put on a holster, get a different shirt, etc......

i am just not that dedicated to concealing a larger gun. I sacrifice capacity, sight radius, and comfort but in return, i always have that small gun.....period. And nowadays i practice more with the snub than a service size firearm....

For me it is much easier to conceal my G26 with 31-rd (!) magazine in my Vertx EDC Transit Sling that was designed specifically for EDC, although it looks like an average backpack, than to conceal the same G26 with standard 10-rd magazine in the holster on my hip.
deputy, Thanks for your insight! I've carried both and I will admit that carrying the CM9 is really hassle free. I intend to give myself more time with both handguns before I settle on one for every day carry. Maybe I'll grow into the Kahr's grip. Thanks again.
surevaliance, Thanks for the reply! I'm new to all of this so I've never heard of the Vertx EDC, but I'll definitely be taking a look at it now. Thanks again!
I carry the Kahr CM9 and it's great for me. It's loaded with a 6-round mag and one in the pipe.

For me, the CM9 has a great trigger. That's the main reason I settled on it. It's comfortable at 4 o'clock. Mostly, I don't even feel it.

I carry a spare 8-round mag in my left pocket.

I also have a Glock 42 380 and it's longer that the CM9. That extra length irritates my hip if I carry it for long periods. I do carry it to places where I have to dress up a little.

It's not as heavy as the CM9.

I also have a BG 380 that I absolutely hate. It has a 12lb. trigger and the travel is all the way to the back of the trigger guard. It's an airweight and the recoil is like shooting a round bare-handed.

Still, like Coalcracker, I'm proficient with it for SD at close range. It carries extremely well. I mostly use it for a "yard" gun. I keep it by the back door.

And ...

BigNastyCowboy, First, thanks for the reply. Secondly, great name. The CM9 definitely sits more comfortably on my hip compared to the Glock 26. I also like the fact that MagGuts has conversion kits that will be coming out soon. It turns the CM9 6-round magazine to a 7-round capacity without extending the magazine and they have one that will convert the 7-round to an 8-round. If I make the CM9 my EDC then I'll put money into those conversions to keep the footprint as small as possible. It's a bit much, but for me it's worth it. Thanks again!

Edit: Howdy from Fort Worth!

I have the CM9 as well as the SIG P365 and I shoot that SIG much better - just did a side by side comparison at 10 yards. The benefit is the SIG is the same size as the Kahr with much higher capacity

Fitasc Shooter, Thanks for the reply! I'm new to shooting handguns so I'm trying to restrain myself from buying everything I see, but I've been eyeing the SIG P365. Maybe later down the road. I do have the P226. It was my first handgun, but because I didn't really know what I was looking for I grew tired of it and only took it to the range a couple of times. High quality gun, though! Thanks again!
Ease of carry and concealment must take priority because if it isn't easy to carry and conceal you won't carry it all the time.

Popeye, Thank you for your input! Very concise; I appreciate that. Thanks again!
Extra Magazine, eh! Almost every self defense shooting is 3 rounds or less and at less that 10’. A small pocket pistol with 7-8 rounds is all you’ll ever need. One of those SCCY 9 mm will do the trick. Your not going into a prolonged battle. It’s defend yours or someone’s life and get out of da her. No bad guy is going to fight you for more than a split second.

I carry the pistol I want to carry. It's a full size pistol. As others have said, I dress around it. Took a while but I carry everywhere I go where it isn't verboten.

Stamps6, Thanks for replying and your input. I'm a newbie so I'm erring on the side of caution. Trust me, I've looked up "how many rounds should I carry" like probably every other unsure newbie. I figure, if I can carry an extra magazine with ease why not (for now). As I get better and more confident maybe I won't need that extra sense of preparedness. Appreciate the 10' tip also! I've been training at 7' at the range. Guess I'm going to have to widen the distance to train at the higher end. I'll get the hang of this! Thanks again!
Wag, Thanks for your reply. I'll see what I can do to dress around whichever handgun I end up carrying. Thanks again!

Until there are several assailants, and the distance is 15+ yards, say in a C-store gas station lot.........

Sorry, but if I can carry 12+1 instead of 6+1 in the SAME SIZE gun, why wouldn't I?

This!
During my first deployment I have learned this quickly.
We carried as much of extra ammo as we could.
This is why my EDC has 31-rd mag in it.
