Savage model 30 hammer

Just noticed the hammer on my .22 has a hole worn in it! There are a couple cracks, looks like more metal is going to flake off. Found a new hammer I’m going to order, just wandered if there are any tricks to replacing it? I screwed up a cva optima trying to do some maintenance, guess there’s a special jig required for reassembly. Don’t want to mess this gun up too.

When I go into an old gun for the first time I photograph the action with all the parts in place. I take more photos as I disassemble the innards. This way I know how everything is supposed to hang together when it is reassembled. Remember the Golden Rule in gunsmithing: "IF IT DID NOT REQUIRE A HAMMER TO TAKE IT APART. IT SHOULD NOT REQUIRE A HAMMET TO REASSEMBLE IT.' There are, of course, exceptions to every rule. Very rare, but exceptions none the less.

I’m a mason who owns lots of hammers, finesse is not my specialty, but I’m getting better.

Does your rifle have malfunctions ? There's another saying that goes " if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

That hole is going to bug me too much to leave alone.
Is this the same gun?
