Reciprocity for Constitutional Carry

770 Views 9 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Popeye
Hi everyone. I’m new here. My state, Oklahoma, begins constitutional carry Nov. 1, 2019. I am unable to determine if constitutional carry will be reciprocated by other states in the same way traditional permits have been reciprocated. All my searching has turned up very little. Can someone help me out? Thanks.

The gun laws of each state are available for you to access on line, but you do have to do a little reading...

I will suggest an example, but you really need to read and examine each particular state by state laws regarding carry and reciprocity. If you, wanted to come to my state, Iowa, and exercise your right to carry here, you would need a permit from your state of residence that is honored (reciprocity) by Iowa...they are not going to honor Oklahoma constitutional carry.

But, I strongly urge you to take the time to dig out the information and read it yourself. Do not take the word of someone else in a forum that may or may not know everything anyway! That person you listened to in a gun forum or a chat or whatever is not going to suffer the consequences if they are wrong, you are!

Welcome to NGF.

Well i know of one state you won't be welcome with your handgun and that's NY. Probably MA, RI, CT, MD, DC, CA and several others as well. While i don't know for sure but I'm guessing any state that previously reciprocated with OK still should. Check here,....https://www.handgunlaw.us/

Don't be ignorant of the laws of each State. There is another tread on here about traveling to another State(Cali.) and he is a retired Deputy. Think before you do anything that could cost you your guns and freedom.
Welcome from NJ. You can’t carry a BB gun here. Not even a slingshot! Pepper spray has to be less than 3/4 of an oz. No bear spray even if you’re hiking. They’re working on a bill to outlaw harsh language.

I knew i was forgetting one on my list.
I'm not a lawyer but here's how I understand it....
There is NO reciprocity of constitutional carry. Constitutional carry simply grants you the right to carry in THAT state without a permit.

Edit: Most (if not all) Constitutional carry states still offer resident/non resident permits. If you want reciprocity you would still need a state issued permit.

As always... consult a lawyer and not the word of well intentioned folks on an internet forum.

IME, if you have to ask a question about firearms legality, the answer is "NO".

OTOH, know your laws in your area. Judges don't care if the professionals in Law Enforcement don't know the law, but he WILL hold YOU responsible for
every last nuance of the same laws of which the police are probably ignorant. Sorry, it doesn't seem to matter that it's the specific job of the Police to know the law.

Just, sorry...
You carry concealed in Florida without proof, you're going to jail. I will bet that OK will also issue permits for folks who like to travel to other locales where OK's permits is honored.
Simple answer: Abide by the laws of the state in which you are carrying. The laws of your home state don't apply in other states.
