Question about safe storage laws.

They say it can make it. You can't protect your home. Because the guns need to be locked up. How does that apply to a gun you have on you? And with you in the bedroom? Or is it just for households with kids? This is coming up for vote in our house. Also 2 other laws passed today in the house.
Red Flag Gun Confiscation AND Universal Gun Registration just passed the Pennsylvania House..

Your house has locks on the doors, so they are locked up. Case closed.

Most of the safe storage laws I read about only applies if there are under 18 year olds living in the same household. Fortunately, I live in a free state and don't have to think about stupid crap like this.

One proposed law was shut down today. It was mandatory reporting if your gun is stolen. Who wouldn't report it? Unless it's hot to begin with.

How often do you go check all of your guns to make sure none are missing? Those laws usually have a time limit and I think the PA law was 3 days? That's the problem with a law like that. Imagine if someone steals one of your guns, you don't notice and it's used in a crime 1 day after the required reporting time. Now you're on the hook. Unless there is something written into the law that you must report it within X amount of days upon discovery of it missing.

Safe storage laws sound good and if you go around asking people they will say it's a good idea to enact laws like that. It takes a deep dive into the law and various simple scenarios to explain how an honest law abiding citizen can find himself on the wrong end of the law.

Without knowing details I can tell you they would be hard to enforce. Every responsible gun owner and law abiding citizen should safeguard and store their firearms responsibly. They should put reasonable effort into keeping them away from children and thieves. When you try to legally define reasonable effort is where problems develops.

the problem is we have people that have no clue as to what they are talking about legislating law for those that do , we are the responsible firearm owners , yet we are under constant attack , while they turn a blind eye to every liberal cities gang gun violence , the fact is they consider us "fair game" because we are the law biding , so we are safe targets , we also vote , and we all know how we vote , everything they do is power driven at its core

Back in the day we hung them on the wall. No issues with kids messing or killing each other.

So check this one, I believe it was back when Fahey was Mayor of Omaha. The city passed an ordinance that stated you could not own (possess?) a HANDGUN in your home for the purpose of self-protection. As far as I know, it was never repealed. All handguns were required to be trigger locked, inside a locking storage safe, with the ammo locked away in a different safe.
Just one more reason I refuse to live in Omaha.

The safe storage law did not pass. Now we have to see if the red flag and universal background checks pass. The senate. I don't know if anyone will comply to that with long guns.

Or in the back window of the truck.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me how UBC can be enforced and how it will stop crime. So far no one has been able to do it.
