I recently picked up a bolt action .22 Marlin XT-22 and I live in NH and I would like to visit my grandparents in Rhode Island. I would most likely stay there for over a month. I want to take my firearm. How do I legally do that. The xt-22 should be legal in RI. Do I have to fill out any forms or can I take it across state lines and keep it in RI for a month without doing anything. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Keep it unloaded, lock it in the trunk of your vehicle, and drive to RI. There are no forms to fill out or any need to get anyone's approval.

BTW, if you are stopped by the police, do not volunteer any information that you have a rifle in the trunk of your vehicle.
