So I'm going to turn 18 very soon, and was looking into getting a gun for home protection. Just for home, nothing in the car etc. Can I only purchase rifles at 18? or can I buy a handgun too keep in the household? I'm getting different answers everywhere and decided to ask actual gun owners. Thanks in advance!

Federally licensed dealers may not sell a handgun to anyone under 21, but private party sales are only restricted to age 18 by both Federal and Oklahoma state law.

would a pawn shop be considered a private party seller?
NO! Unless the firearm is consigned to the pawn shop for sale.

Usually, a private party is the non-business individual who owns the firearm.
