Really just looking for a place to talk about guns. Happy to contribute. I only have 2 firearms. I have a little single action .22 I bought as sort of a novelty. Its the Heritage Rough rider. Either it sucks, or I suck, 'cause I couldn't hit water with that thing if I tossed it out of a boat. I have a Ruger 10/22. I like my .22s because they are easy on the wallet.

Its the first pistol I owned so maybe I just don't know what I'm doin. I was real excited, ya know its a cool little gun and it was real inexpensive.

Yes they shoot good with both 22lr and magnum. The 9 inch one took some break in before it picked up in accuracy. At 1st i had to use some kentucky windage. The long one was on out of the box windage wise. I had to bring the sight down for elevation. The fiber optics are really nice on it.

Way back in the late 50s, I bought a 9" piece of crap .22 revolver. I come from a family with 8 kids and money was tight.

I was shooting it on a bridge on the bayou and my brother was standing to the right and he yelled, "What the Sam Hill???"

The cylinder did not interface tightly with the barrel and (we looked at it at night) the ejecta came out at the sides. :eek6:

Anyway, I got a holster for it and went rabbit hunting at night with it. Unlike today, there were a lot of areas off the road where I could hunt.

So, I had a head lamp powered by a 6 volt lantern battery (remember those?) and that 9" gun and I would get me a mess of rabbits, skin and clean them, roll 'em up in flour and it was laripin good.

People were amazed that I could rabbit hunt at night with a light and a handgun but that thing was more like a rifle.

Thanks for bringing that memory back.

My dad had a head lamp powered with a 6 volt battery for **** hunting. He used it for shooting the **** out of the tree with his rifle. It had a rechargeable battery. Pa has never allowed night scopes. Wish they would for night critters. Maybe one day.

Welcome from Texas where approximately 90% of the world’s recoverable helium is located in the ground under Amarillo, Texas.
Welcome from NW Iowa! .22’s are fun to shoot; no noticeable recoil, relatively quiet and economical! I have been hunting small game with a .22 since I was 14. I have never owned a Heritage Rough Rider, but my Ruger single six will shoot the lights out of squirrels pretty good out to 25 yards. 10/22 is fun too.
