Between 1942 and 1945, Ithaca Gun Company made 382,000 of the .45 caliber Model 1911A1 pistols for the U.S. military. That looks to be one of those pistols extensively reworked.

Ithaca is also making new 1911AI pistols.

A lot of factories were retooled to make guns, ammo and supplies during the WWII. Toy companies like Lionel among others stopped using steel in much of the toys because it was all going into war supplies. Lionel quit making toys altogether between 1942 and 1945 except cardboard trains because they were making supplies for the navy.

He still has the 1911. Don't know if the price is fair or not. He's selling used SDVE'S for 300.00 Ouch.

The M1 garand and M1 carbine is another gun that had many oddball manufacturers like underwood typwrtier, IBM, Rock ola, GM(inland) and IHC(international).
