Is my shotgun original?

Hello guys!

I'm from Turkey. Unfortunately, my uncle passed away and he left me his 12 guage pump action shotgun that he used to scare off wild boar and stray dogs on his farm. The shotgun seems highly modified. The brand is Remington. I've had contact with Remington. They said that the number on the side of the action is a number that they don't use. Does this imply that this shotgun is a counterfeit? I would like to hear your opinions. If my post doesn't comply to the rules, I would like to apologize in advance. Safe shooting!

Welcome aboard.
Don't worry about Remington's response. They have the screwiest serial number system in the gun world. Half the time they can't even figure it out.
In the US that barrel would be a problem, under 18". The grip and forend handle are manufactured by several different companies here. The receiver
APPEARS
to be an 870 Remington. If the forend has an action bar on both sides it is probably an 870. Remington is one of the few gun manufacturers that put the twin action bars on their pump gun. Excellent design for strength and durability.
My bet it is a Remington and the person you contacted at Remington doesn't know how to read a serial number. If your uncle bought the shotgun in Turkey it might be a different sterilization. I don't know.

Thanks for your answer! I took the gun apart today, I noticed it was very dirty and probably never has been cleaned. I think it is a counterfeit Remington 870. It seems to be made quite well. It most likely is a Turkish made shotgun, and has been marked with "Remington". I took some more pictures of the internals, maybe this provides some more clarity. It looks like the shotgun indeed has twin action bars. This gun just is a mystery to me. I would really appreciate it if anybody else can provide some more info!

It looks like it was originally a Marine Magnum but it now has some aftermarket items on it.

I doubt that the shotgun is a conterfeit Remington. Gun manufacturers are notorious for suing the hell out of anyone sticking their name/logo on conterfeits. That is the reason the barrels are covered with Patent Dates from the factory.
As far as the serial numbers go. I have several old Remingtons that are positivily Remington rifles without a modern Remington type serial number. A good example is the Browning A-5's made just prior to, and during the second world war. As I pointed out earlier Remington doesn't know what serial numbers are theirs. It looks like a nice defense weapon with lots of memories hang on to it.
One of the first things i notice on your gun is the lack of a rear trigger group retaining pin, something that's present on every 870 I own.
It may be an offshore licensed model, built elsewhere than the USA.
The two Chinese knockoffs I've heard about here are from Norinco, and Hawk, both are unlicensed clones from China, but I don't believe they use a Remington logo.
