to be an 870 Remington. If the forend has an action bar on both sides it is probably an 870. Remington is one of the few gun manufacturers that put the twin action bars on their pump gun. Excellent design for strength and durability.
My bet it is a Remington and the person you contacted at Remington doesn't know how to read a serial number. If your uncle bought the shotgun in Turkey it might be a different sterilization. I don't know.
