A hunter in Georgia died on Saturday after he was shot by another hunter who thought he was a dear, according to officials.

The Glynn County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened in a wooded area off Myers Hill Road, located just outside of Brunswick.

A group of hunters told authorities they had all met and come to the Myers Hill area to go hunting during the day.

While in an area of thick foliage, police told WFOX that Bobby Lane was shot by Hector Romero after he was mistaken for a deer. Romero then helped Lane to a nearby gas station, where the hunters met emergency responders.

Lane later died of his injuries at an area hospital, police said.

Glynn County Police told WFOX that Lane was shot by a rifle, even though it is currently bow season in Georgia.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is now investigating the incident, in addition to Glynn County Police. No arrests have been made, and it's not yet known if any charges will be filed in connection to the deadly shooting.

Wonder if it was a case of shooting at moving bushes.

A rifle during bow season. Illegal aliens don't know the difference, poor hector. He'll get a new house for his troubles.

Just as important is also knowing what your target is!

I hope poor bobby wasn't hunting in his brown fur coat.
This looks like a "SOUND SHOT" made by an idiot. A rifle in the woods during deer season? I would bet the state will file a Criminally Negligent Homicide charge. The shooter was committing a crime when he took the firearm to the woods out of season. That shot could cost him about 25 years in Georgia.

Just don't go hunting in your deer costume and you'll be fine.

I hope they hit him real hard. He wasn’t a hunter, he was a poacher. I truly have no sympathy for guys like this. Rifle in the woods during bow season. I’ll bet he didn’t even have a license. Calling him a hunter does every hunter a disservice. After all isn’t every hunter drunk and a fat slobbering mess?

"...another hunter who thought he was a dear." Sounds like some kind of Brokeback Mountain foul play to me.
First rule of hunting my Uncle taught me as a kid.
Do not shoot at anything that you do not know what it is, and always know what is in the background in case you miss.
Too many idiots out hunting now.

Our archery starts this weekend. In Pa were not required to wear orange for archery. When muzzleloader week starts i wear orange. This year archery extends into fall turkey. So again i'll have orange on if i still need to be out that late in the season.
