Thirty years as a municipal cop, two years as a probation officer. I worked for a dufus sheriff who didn't carry a gun and let all but the most dastardly criminals off with a warning. Even left the cell unlocked when he arrested the local drunk just so he didn't feel trapped, that is until old Otis wandered out one night and got run over by a train. Sadly, the lawsuit put an end to that open door policy in the jail. Okay, just kidding, about the sheriff that is, not about being a cop and a probation officer.
