You need to pass the background check, and be an American citizen. Thats if you obey the law. According to the liberal media, you can get any gun you want in New York on any street corner, after all the criminals have plenty of guns, street sweepers, AK's, ect. Guns must be everywhere in NY.

here in the states it is fairly simple, Fill out a paper giving name, address, SSN, then you are asked a series of simple questions like "have you every been convicted" or "have you ever renounced your citizenship" ect. and then the gun dealer calls the police asking for a background check, if you pass you are on your way with a new handgun. All you info is recorded in a data base also.

It varies in some areas, like some states have a 3 day wait but no catigories come to mind at this moment

The ability to obtain a firearm is pretty dependant on what state you live in. Here in Arizona, you need to pass a background check and be either a citizen or a resident alien (LEGAL immigrant with a green card). If you have a Concaled Carry Permit (which is "shall issue") you don't need the background check.

I grew up in NY and it was like pulling teeth for a hand gun. Rifles and shotguns were not regulated at the time. New York City requires a permit for all firearms. Again, in Arizona it is pretty simple, be a legal citizen and pass a background check. It took me 15 minutes to buy my last pistol.

If you are legit and dont use drugs, never been to prison, then you are good to go. But you have to show that you are a legal citizen, not a temp. alien. there are also out of state laws to deal with.

You don't have to be a citizen, just a permanent resident with a clean record. My hubby and I both got "permits to buy" here in North Carolina before we became citizens. I know that different states have different laws, but as far as the feds are concerned, you just need to be a permanent resident (green card holder).
