here lately it seems everytime i go anywhere i'm approached by a bum trying to beg money or sell me a palm frond laced cross!
then there are the type who loiter outside of retail stores or at the fuel pumps.
when they see you leave for your car guess they figure you have pocket money to
bribe them away from you! pretty good thinking actually!
i've even had them wait till i was buckling up and approach me for change while the accomplice, usually a haggard looking female stood behind my car to prevent me from backing out! at least they throught so ..."talk to the hand or finger move or you get bumped!"
no i haven't always been this callused. guess i have reached my saturation with seeing our society going to the dregs.
as a kid growing up in the fifties i don't recall people living this way. :?
may it's all demographics and i was in the wrong/right places?
the experts say the way society treats their aged and poor reflects their future.
don't have a real quick painless answer on this one?
held hostage by homeless!
"and that's all i have to say."

when my daughter was 17 -18 yrs old (86-87)her best friend moved to anchorage alaska.
sabra, her friend tried her best to coaxe duane to the yukon.
finally i advised duane to write the chamber of commerence to inquire on job availability, housing,
mean average income and living expense.... ya get the picture. the chamber sent a very professional packet, within the packet the chamber stated , come on for a visit but make SURE you have money for a return trip home. there is no government welfare services offered and we don't want you to stay run out of money and think you will get a job...you won't! all job openings are offered to current residents first before hiring anyone else. come to visit and we welcome you but only come to stay if you are coming with empolyment! after that duane's infatuation with alaska faded with the midnight sun.
sounds to me the government didn't continue to follow their guide lines.

When I lived in San Francisco (1992 - 98), the Golden Gate Park was a "take your life into your own hands" area if you went there after dark. It was a haven for the homeless and if they thought they could roll you then they were very agressive. On the other hand, I saw one "indigent" individual bet into a Volvo after a hard day of pan handling. Recognized him from seeing him on the streets regularly. Shocked the [email protected] out of me.

I guess its the result of so many years of drug addiction in this country. They have a hard time getting back into society after doing meth for so many years. Plus many of them don't have many brain cells left to function after a life of addiction.

Add to that the ACLUs efforts at preventing law enforcement from removing them from the streets and you have the result in your face. You see, they now have "rights" and cannot be arrested for vagrancy or loitering anymore.
