Hi all. I am new here and first time gun owner. My father has handed down an old Simson & Co Suhl 22 Rifle to me and we don't know much about it. I see a serial number/date code of 24281 - both inside the bolt and on the bolt handle. It has a fascinating pop up sight behind the trigger and bolt. Logo on the top of barrel shows Simson & Co Suhl Germany, and then the serial number/date code. But then forward of the Simson logo/details, there some information about Importing into the US ... do I assume correctly that this would have been stamped on when coming from Germany to US?

I am trying to track down manufacture date and anything else. I think I successfully uploaded photos with this post.

Help help please.

Not sure of the age but I'm almost certain the rear site is something someone added. That company was in business for a long time and i know they used to make training rifles that look like the K-98 but i have seen some like yours before too but i don't think it's a trainer because of the U.S. import marks. I;m sure someone here can help you but just going on looks it's probably from somewhere between the 1930's and 1950's with the WWII years removed. Could be older but i doubt it's newer.

Something of historical interest is that the founding family, the Simsons, were Jewish. This, of course, did not persist as the factories were taken over by the Nazis and later they were under communist control.
