Looks similar to a Webley and was going to comment if they copied them. Did a quick search and it appears this was a British military gun prior to the Webley. Maybe Webley copied them?

Adams, Kerr, Pryse, Bently, Tranter AND Webley all manufacturing guns in the mid 1800s looking for a market and a govt subsidy/contract if possible.
So yes, everybody was copying/using the best design/components possible to that end!
