I have a dilemma. My oldest son wants to start archery (shooting bows). I do not know anything about bows but am willing to learn so I can spend time with my son and hopefully lead him into hunting. Any recommendations for equipment, lesons... Remember, this is for the very beginner who does not want to be overwhelmed at the beginning (me not my son!).

Thanks,
Barry

Wow, don't really know where to start with this one. First of all buying a compound bow for a youth is something that he will undoubtedly outgrow in no time. Draw length is critical for shooting on target with consistancy. Draw weight is important too, because they can get fatigued pretty easily. I was able to find this one at Cabella's online. Maybe this one is right for you?

well, it looks like this is a pretty old thread, but yeah, +1 for the genesis.

havent shot one but my father helps witht ht ecub scouts here and they take them out and let them shoot the genisises on loan from one of the local clubs, apparently, they are about 30 lb max, amd have no letoff like a trad compound, so there is really no set draw length, so, in effect, most any size shooter can use it.
