Can someone give me a break down on fluted barrels and why I would want one?

I believe that they are junk.

Give you a couple reasons why.

1.it reduces the strength of the barrel, so you pay more for less;

2.the very process of fluting can disturb the bore's internal, and actually diminish the quality of the bore. Again, you pay more for less.

3.The actual amount of weight savings is generally rather small in most gas guns, since many areas cannot be fluted.

Just my thoughts!

first of all your logic and reasons are all wrong.

1. a fluted barrel is bull barrel that has had some material removed to save weight. and is just as strong as the non fluted.

2. the barrel is fluted before the bore is cut.

3. every little bit helps if thats what you want. if youre trying to make weight for a competive reason it makes a huge differance.

and a flutted barrel looks good. is it better than a bull barrel? depends on what you want.
