Bought a Howa Axiom 1500 back in April or May and it's just been sitting in the safe since. Bought a scope(redfield revenge 6x18) last weekend but my LGS was kind of busy so i didn't want to bother waiting for rings, mounting and bore sighting so i went first thing this morning. He didn't have much for rings in stock so it's just got some cheapies on it right now and I'll probably swap them out later now that i know which height i need. Took it out back and quickly zeroed it at 50yds just because there was a target set up there and then smacked some steel at 200yds.

Went back inside to BS for awhile and he tells me the lower i ordered came in so i did the paperwork for that. Just happen to mention i love how AR's look with wood and he disappears in the back for a minute and comes back with a set. So i grabbed that too along with a buffer tube the get the project going a little. Can't use the pistol grip though(thanks Cuomo!) so i got a spur for this build.

Now i just need to see if i can find the right barrel for the wood that's not threaded. Just going to do irons on this one with a carry handle.

Wow...I looked at that and at a glance said that objective's a lot bigger than 18mm. You said "6X18". I'm sure that you meant "6-18X44". Anyway, very nice outfit. Should be great fun!

Yep, left out the 44mm. I had to pop off the cheek piece from the stock too so i can get the eye relief right. It was either do that or raise the scope higher but it's already high. As it is i have just enough clearance to slide a piece of paper between the front of the scope and the mount.

Yeah the AR"s with wood just do it for me and it's one of those things that when something is in front of me I'll buy it versus seeing it online and putting it off. Probably going to be a slow build though.

I don't think I ever saw an AR with wood stock. Had to go look at pictures. Interesting....different.

I'm not crazy about a pistol grip type of stock. With my shotguns. Have always gone for more flow backward on the grip. Would love an english stock. Never could afford it. It just fits my hand better. I think that's from all the young training on my hands in golf. Leaves me more coordinated with my trigger finger. I'm rationalizing that's why I was never all that crazy about my AR. Prefer something like a mini 14 to an AR.
Now if we could just make me a poster child for assault rifles. They'd change that pistol grip law.
Not having a grenade launcher is a definite deal breaker. I feel so sorry for you. You poor depraved soul. Every AR just has to have a grenade launcher.

Congrats on your Howa. Looks nice.
