Wow cool i never saw 28 ga in the store. One of the guys i shoot skeet with uses a 28ga. He said he loads his own. He's a good shot too.
I wanted one for years, but the Citori was out of my price range. When a got a chance at the 'Burn Victim' last year I snapped it up. I admit I needed it about like a fish needs a bicycle. But when did that ever make a difference . I am looking forward to taking it out on Sunday so the gray rockets can embarrass me, again. :weapon2::lol:28 is vastly underappreciated for its capability
These Federal's are #8's. The Winchesters were #6's. When I load my own I load everything with #6's. But then again all is shoot is dove, quail, and ducks. My 28 is solely for dove so 8's will work just fine.I bought my son a TriStar 28 ultra light. Weighs less than my 410. He does a lot of snipe hunting with it. Ammo is always a little bit of a hassle. That’s a great price but what size shot?
After I get my shop set up in Texas I will not have to buy ammunition again. I have a complete array of dies for all my rifles, pistols, and shotguns. The old lady Elsie's, and Ithaca's get special recipes any way.Several years ago I picked up a very lightly used Ruger Red Label 28 Ga shotgun, complete with full length Briley .410 inserts and a hand fitted hard case. The stock had been extended at the factory(!) so it fit me without modifications. The shop bought an estate and I don't believe the old boy ever shot it.
Its now my dove gun but I'm not good enough to efficiently use the .410 inserts for doves. That doesn't stop me from trying.
Ammo? I buy 7 and 8 shot by the case at cost+ prices. Ya really gotta develop a good relationship with your LGS owner.
Glad you like your Red Label. I had one from the first run and had nothing but issues. 3 trips back to Ruger, three complete rebuilds, and nothing stayed fixed. Too bad as I REALLY wanted to like this for chasing chukar and quail out WestSeveral years ago I picked up a very lightly used Ruger Red Label 28 Ga shotgun, complete with full length Briley .410 inserts and a hand fitted hard case.
