The US Virgin Islands was mentioned above. The libs excoriate Trump for suggesting that we may acquire Greenland from Denmark. They call him "an out of control imperialist pig who is not fit to govern". Yet, they either don't know know or haven't been informed, or both, that, in 1917 under the administration of Woodrow Wilson (a Democrat), the US purchased the US Virgin Islands from Denmark. Oh yeah, the same Denmark that owns Greenland. (Greenland is considered an autonomous territory within...you guessed it...Denmark.)

How did little old Denmark acquire all this real estate?

The same way the Portuguese, Spanish, English and Dutch did - they sailed around the world and claimed them for their king

Management just posted warnings on our doors about the possibility of a storm........It's a week away if it comes here at all, and it has to cross 100 miles of land to get here....we're all gonna die! People drive me nuts.

I'm at one of the higher points in Florida at 236'; so storm surge isn't my concern but winds are. We went through Michael last year; before that I had Irma come over my house in central Florida

My house is 150 ft. Above sea level. The top of the drive 195 and there are higher points around me. There is a ridge running down the center of Florida which was called the Sand Hills back in the day. The old Cattle ranchers (crackers) wintered their cattle there. I sat through Irma which was a cat 2 when the eye passed 5 miles east of me. I may be elsewhere if this one comes like that.

That high pressure off the Carolinas and Bermuda is keeping Dorian coming to us instead of veering up the coast. Now, they're saying it will hit as a Cat 4 Monday morning. I guess this labor day, I'll be grilling indoors......
