I was recently bequeathed a Colt New Frontier in 22LR and I’d like to acquire a 22 mag cylinder. The Blue Book talks about some that can take a 22 Mag cylinder and some that can’t. The brief explanation of which ones can and which ones can’t is ambiguous. Can someone help me figure out if mine can? It was made in late 70’s or early 80’s. It has the black grips, case hardening on the frame, with a blued 6” barrel. Thanks!

You should be able to contact colt, give them the serial number and they should be able to tell you.

Does it have a cross bolt safety? If it does it is LR only. (per Blue Book of Gun Values 2010 edition)

My father in law has one from the 70’s. I am not positive but I think his had both cylinders.

I don't know anything but think the non-transfer bar cross bolt safety was an eighties thing.
