Hi everyone -

My local gun shop just raised their ammo prices again. I've always wanted to support my local shop but I'd like to look for online distributors that will ship to California (if any).

I don't know about Ca laws, but if you keep your eye on this site:

http://www.gunbroker.com/

Every once in a while, someone puts something up for sale and they're either desperate for the cash, or they don't know the value of what they're selling because it's as much as 50% cheaper than what gun shops charge. Unfortunately, you have to watch it all the time, and hope that the very thing you need is the thing that is cheap.

Right now there is no problem getting ammo shipped into Ca with the exception of a few cities. This may soon change if Arnold doesn't veto a bill that is sitting on his desk right now. But you have at least a couple of years to get all the ammo you want shipped to your front door. Some of my favorite online suppliers are:
www.aimsurplus.com
www.the-armory.com
www.cabelas.com
www.midway.com

All of these sites have ups and downs... I'm usually able to find reasonably priced ammo on there. As an aside, what part of Ca do you live in. I know a place to get decent priced reloads in Rancho Cucamonga. I've never had an ounce of trouble with them and I have shot them in both .40S&W (probably 2K rounds) and .45ACP (probably 500 rounds).

If your address is:

XXXXXX XXXXX
XXXX XX XXX
Sacramento, CA XXXXX

There is no online dealer who will ship ammunition to your address. The city of Sacramento had a local ordinance banning the mail order receipt of ammunition within the city limits.

I realize that you do not live in the city. On line retailers will not realize this and will not bother to check. If the address says Sacramento, they will not ship.

Come on down to:

River City Gun Exchange
2370 Fruitridge Road
Sacrtamento, CA 95822

Right now we are selling 180 gr .40 S&W ammunition starting at $16.99 per 50 rounds. We enforce no limits. Buy all we have I you so desire. We have cases of the stuff.

That's a good price no matter what state you live in.

The state bill passed and went to Governors desk I believe..and he has till 10/11 to sign or veto..and if he dont veto..is passed into law anyway....

This is sad deal...even for CA...as for the apparent lack of good it may do to thwart criminal activity...

My old uncle spoke to me about this and others before he went in for bypasses..and due to requirement of license to sell being removed...he thinks state business had a hand in the mail/web cut off....? as to the
large number of face to face sellers already there....I told him I didnt believe that..is just commiefornia being squirrley...cause what businesses would be anywhere near involved adding all this BS - finger prints..records...DOJ involvement..merchandise relocations..etc....unless of course it was all bein shoved down their gullets and they were able toat least summon reps for some mail/web relief....even if that was a case..and I dont think it was...I wouldnt blame em for it.....I really think its just more of the same from liberals run amuck and then wonderin why they are broke and have crime...?

Will be anxious to learn of Guvernator signs it or just lets it pass onits own...?.....

from a site...........

To: Cabela's California Customers
From: Cabela's Communications
Subject: California Assembly Bill 962
Date: Sept. 22, 2009

We are writing to inform you of pending legislation that will restrict purchases of handgun ammunition in California and will terminate our ability to service your needs for certain products.

On Friday, Sept. 11, the California Assembly passed Assembly Bill 962, by a 44-31 vote.

Among other regulations, AB 962 would:
• Ban all mail-order and Internet sales of handgun ammunition.
• Prohibit the retail sale, the offer for sale or the display of handgun ammunition in a
manner that allows ammunition to be accessible to a purchaser without assistance of a
vendor or employee.
• Require that the delivery or transfer of ownership of handgun ammunition occur in a
face-to-face transaction, with the deliverer or transferor being provided bona fide
evidence of identity of the purchaser or other transferee.

That evidence of identity, which must be legibly recorded at the time of delivery, includes:
• The right thumbprint of the purchaser or transferee.
• The date of the sale or other transaction.
• The purchaser's or transferee's driver's license or other identification number and the
state in which it was issued.
• The brand, type and amount of ammunition sold or otherwise transferred.
• The purchaser's or transferee's signature.
• The name of the salesperson who processed the sale or other transaction.
• The purchaser's or transferee's full residential address and telephone number.
• The purchaser's or transferee's date of birth.

The bill is on the desk of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, where it awaits his consideration. He will have until Oct. 11 to sign or veto the bill. If he does not veto the bill, it will become law.

If you wish to comment on AB 962, you may contact Gov. Schwarzenegger by phone at (916) 445-2841, or via fax at (916) 558-3160. To e-mail Gov. Schwarzenegger, visit
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger - Interact

We encourage all Cabela's customers who participate in the shooting sports to contact Gov. Schwarzenegger to voice their opposition to this initiative, which will limit your opportunities to shop with Cabela's, and will restrict the sale of handgun ammunition everywhere in California.
