I picked up this .30-06 rifle that has been passed down three generations it has a custom engraving on the stock a friend of my grampa had done for him a long time ago. just wondering if anybody can give me any insight into what type of rifle this is. I expect the rifle to offer more sentimental value than monetary but none the least i would just like to know for my own information attached are some pictures.

i call it a model 1917 Enfield......some may call it an eddystone depending on who made it......should be some more marks underneath that front sight base........

It definitely has Euro proof marks, the BV for Birminham (as mentioned) and the NP for smokeless powder - both of which have been in use since 1904.
