Saw on another forum


Malaysian Surplus (brass) with rust all over

Brass doesn't rust, but these have rust on them

Brass can develop a red or green tarnish that may resemble rust.

If the brass casings are tossed in steel containers, or come in contact with steel clips i.e. the Garand clips, the rust will transfer to the brass. The brass is not rusted only tarnished by the rust if the steel object. A good dry tumbler with a tsp. of FLITZ will fix it right up.

Water or moisture droplets will stain and tarnish brass. Look at brass left at the range or discarded out in "the field".

Verdigris (the green tarnish on brass) will corrode a brass case, over time, much like rust. Perhaps those rusty "brass' cases were only treated, to look like brass.
