Blank gun started to rust all of a sudden

Hello everybody,

I have one question about maintaining blank gun.
I would look up on internet,but I'm not sure does same rules of gun maintaining apply for blank guns too.
Anyway,I have 9mm P.A.K blank replica of Beretta 92FS,and I always clean it as best as I can after shooting.I use this spray for cleaning:

I have Balistoil,but god after using that I got huge headaches.
I always do same thing I strip the gun and spray all parts,and then rub them with q tips and paper towel.I do that until gun is completely clean.I always remove all spray oil,so the gun is always completely dry after cleaning.
I'm not sure should I leave spray oil after cleaning or should I keep doing it like I use to?
Also,I have this gun for year and the half,and it never got any rust,until recently,when it started to get rust on magazine.
From that day,I need to check it often and it's always gets a bit more rust on it,and that's on magazine,not rest of the parts.

Do you perhaps know why this started to happen,because I haven't done anything new.I always have same cleaning process.

Something is different in the environment you are storing the gun in.
My son lives on Galveston Island. High humidity and salt air.
His gun was showing signs of rust after a few days.
I gave him a can of Barricade. Sprays it on wipes but leaves a thin film on it.
Problem stopped.

Its just the magazine that shows rust? If so, remove the magazine and store it separately.

Also, after cleaning, apply a light coat of gun oil to all parts with emphasis on the parts showing rust.

Hmmm,I was keeping it in it's original plastic case,but lately I kept it in holster that was in drawer.
As far as I can tell,yeah only magazine shows rust.I will keep storing the gun in it's case.
I thought that gun oil will only make it rustier,that's why I'm wipe it entirely.Can I use same spray that I use for cleaning,or does it have to be Barricade?

NEVER store it in a leather holster! The solution used to tan leather causes metal to rust.

GUN OIL, not solvent, will keep rust from forming. It doesn't take a lot.

It's not a leather holster tho.It's nylon.
So sprays are only for cleaning,not lubing and preventing rust?
I never used oil on my gun only sprays, so maybe now is the time.

I'm not sure.I use regular 9mm PAK ammo.I was always wonder does ''standard'' blank ammo use black powder,and I googled name of ammo manufacturer and model,but I didn't find anything.

My only experience with blank firing pistols is with starter pistols. They use BP so timers can see the smoke. They have to be scrubbed with soap and water after a meet or they will rust. I would decap and prime only for everyday user to get runners used to starting on the gun but without the smoke. Meets require the use of smoke. We used 32 S&W blanks.

Oh yeah, if you get a lot of smoke upon firing is likely BP.

Chris this is a good learning experience for you. When you move up to a real firearm you will be more educated on the proper care and maintenance.:thumbsup:
