I have always been a fan of marlins, I have looked over this one, the lever is a bit stiff, but that will wear in use. :)

It has a pretty big recoil, which was a big of a surprise to me. I think if you wanted to develope a nice flinch, this is the gun to start with!

Yea, I found that out!

I do think it would bring a fairly large bear to a screeching halt, quickly! If you could hit the bear and avoid the flinch!

Hey!
I have a .450 too.

My wife dragged it home, for an atv saddle gun
put one round downrange, and had it ported
Marlin should sell 'em that way, no more whack
leaves a push, kinda, and a lotta bang
samey same a .45-70
gotta hold her tight
shot a frozen pumpkin with it at 150 yards, open sights
(shoots nice, right on at 150)
and turned it to pumpkin pieces
urban legend here has it that a .450 shooter missed a bear
grazed it's scalp
concussion killed it
i like to shoot that marlin
but jeepers .450 is pricey
marlin lever smoothed out like butter with use
and's got th' nicest trigger i own

Yep, ammo is darn expensive! I stepped up and bought a couple boxes of the Hornady New plastic tipped ammo that is supposed to extend the range another 50 yards or so. Have not shot it yet so I don't know how it works.

My 450 is the Guide Gun so it has the short barrel and is ported from the factory. Still kicks like a damn mule!
