Pistol (personal defense): H&K USPc in .40 S&W or .45 ACP. Especially with the LEM trigger option, but Var 1 and 2 are great, also (imagine, a handgun for lefties...what a concept).
(duty / military) H&K USPf in .40 S&W or .45 ACP; S&W 1006, S&W 4006.
Revolver: S&W Mod. 19 or 66. If you have big hands or just like a bigger gun, the Mod. 27 or 28.
Rifle (bolt action): I'm so impressed with the Weatherby Vanguard (Howa 1500) that I'm going to purchase at least one more in another caliber. Just need to put a Timney trigger on it and it's dang near perfect for my purposes.
(Semi-auto non-military) Ruger Mini-14
(Semi-auto, military) Bushmaster AR-15, Springfield M1-A, The Garand (Hmmm...kneel and genuflect).
Fun Gun / Kid's Gun: Ruger 10/22
Shotgun: Remington 870 in any of it's iterations. Period.
Most underrated caliber (revolver): .41 Rem Mag. Simply put, it does everything the .44 Rem Mag is supposed to do...better. I was ahead of the curve on this one, but you have to be a reloader to appreciate this caliber.
Most underrated caliber (pistol): 10mm. That took me about 10 years to figure out.
Most overrated caliber (pistol): 9mm Parabellum. Yes, it's deadly. So's a .22LR. Hell, I don't stand in front of a Daisy, either. There's a reason it's popular in Europe... it's NOT American (and they can handle it with their tiny little hands).
