Best Choice For Home Defense?

So Im thinking, would a shotgun be the best choice for home defense? Shotguns have tremendous stopping power and they don't over penetrate the way rifles do. As such I think a good semi automatic or pump shotgun, ideally a 12 gauge, might be the ideal choice for home defense.

But their family can.

Your logic, while sensible, is rarely sustainable in many courtrooms today.

The problem is not the law suit. The problem is liberal DA's filing bogus Manslaughter charges against people who defend their home and family.

I've heard of this, never tried it and I'm pretty sure I've watched a video or two in the past about this. Doesn't it essentially make it a slug? For some reason I have it it my mind that it's possibly dangerous as well(for the shooter/gun). I may have read it somewhere but not sure if it's true. A shotgun at close range no matter what the load is going to make one hell of a wound. Even 1oz of #9 at 10-15 feet is going to ruin your day.
Exactly my point. Number 5's to 9's won't go through several sheet rock walls before they run out of punch. Slugs and Buck Shot require a lot of chalk board walls to stop them. Let's face it no one wants to get shot with anything from a B.B. air pistol, to a .458 Win Mag. A face full of #9's at close range will really mess up a predator's day. The longest shot a person is likely to make INSIDE a house is fifteen to twenty feet from the muzzle to target. Think about it.

Yup, I call that the "Ghetto Lottery Winner". Just another reason to tell the officers responding to your shooting..."I have intense chest pains and need to go to the hospital!". No officer in his right mind will ask you a bunch of idiot questions if he believes you are having an anxiety or heart attack. By the time the doctors release you for interrogation by law enforcement your lawyer will be present. You are not being evasive, only responding to the stress of the situation. Been there done that from BOTH sides of the badge.

As mentioned above.
Do not give any info other than “you were in fear for your life”, have stress, go to a hospital then lawyer up.

I'm going to say a Star Trek phaser. Not only does it kill the criminal intruder, it also vaporizes the body so there is no mess, no trial, and no reports to file. 👽

Too bad they haven't yet been invented.

Not if it's in the "stun mode"

Unless you count a phosphorous weapon as equal.

This has been a topic of discussion in my home in the past.
First a description about my household.
Married, MT nester, disabled wife, always at least two Rottweilers.
Lic. Service Plumber, I average 3 or 4 12 hour days a week at anytime of the day or night.
I have direct availability to the Federal manufacturing plant employee store in Anoka, MN
My wife is proficient with her .38 special (crimson trace capable grips) loaded with Critical defense, along with virtually more speed loaders than she can carry.
My bedside has along with my EDC of the day (varies), a HK mp5 (licensed) loaded again with Critical defense and again more 30 round magazines than I can carry.

I currently have a s&W Bodyguard 380 in my nightstand. I feel the laser is a good choice for home protection.
6 feet away from my bed is a closet with a S&W 657 tucked away in a safe.
I like the heavier gun for home, easier to point and shoot, but I like the laser on the .380.
I had a shotgun in the closet which I took out.
But I have an alarm system and a dog as well. And my lights are automated so I can turn on anything with just one command.
I don't know if there is a perfect weapon for home defense.....other than what you feel the most comfortable with and don't have to think about before you act.
It's good to talk theory, kind of fun as well. But when the SHTF all of that goes out the window.
Your half asleep, your heart is pounding through your chest and you are half dressed at best.
You may have a spouse or a few kids and your mind is going in 10 different directions.
At that point you need to have whatever is the most comfortable and second nature to you to rely on.
Lethality, action, size, weight......none of that matters when your a$$ is on the line....and that of your families.
A baseball bat, a cast iron pan or a kitchen knife may be what you need when you need it.
What are your thoughts on a pistol caliper carbine? I'm looking at something chambered in either a 9mm or 45 ACP. I might just go with an AR 9 cause I like the platform. But really its about control and ease of customization.
The New S&W 9mm carbine looks interesting, and folds down into a small 16.5" package. Comes in a nice soft case. The best part is because it's a side folder, you can leave optics mounted on it. The downside is that it only takes proprietary S&W magazines. But it is a perfect companion to an S&W MP 2.0 pistol.

Watch Out Glock!!
