That darn plane had 13 50 cal machine guns in the G model with the nose gun. Unbelievable firepower in one aircraft.

The Evergreen Musem where Doug Wilson works has one on display, with all the guns intact. You can go on board and check it out. It was quite a thrill for me since my Uncle had flown as Navigator on 51 missions out of England and Itlay during WWll.

If you ever get up this way its worth a looksee!

Contact me if you head to Orygon, and I will give you a free, guided tour of the Spruce Goose, and all the rest of the birds.

Yes it is quite an experience to walk through a B-17. I was able to do so at a air show a few years back and am very glad I did. You can actually get a ride in the B17 for like $400-500 bucks. Heres the web site:

Here is one of the 50 cals in the B-17 at Doug Wilsons museum in McMinnville Oregon.

I once had the honor of interviewing the top turret gunner of the Memphis Belle. Unfortunately I was young and stupid and in High School, thus I didn't really know what to ask.

Sadly a few years later I found out that he passed away. I really wish I was able to ask him more questions.

My Uncle was a navagator on a B-17 and just had his 89th birthday. Retired as a full col in KS. Still sharp as a tack and full of stories.

He did over 50 missions into Germany out of England and Italy. Somehow survived. Talk about FEAR!!
