Palmetto State Armory has a bunch for sale. I bought this Walther built one from them last Fall. Once I cleaned all the black preservative off it, I found a nice grey (original?) finish underneath.
The K98 and Luger are very fine weapons indeed. I'd be glad to own either one if I could afford them. But I remember the Nazi days, and prefer to think of them as German guns.
I don't collect anything, but I do have a k98 that still has the eagle-swastika markings on it (i was told they were shaved off before they were sent/taken back to the U.S.)
My best friend has a numbers matching broomhandle mauser, complete with stock and everything that his great grandfather brought back from WWII. Really cool old gun, maybe someday we'll actually take it out and shoot it.
I like my Lugers and Walthers. My favorite is the C-96 Pistols. These were stocked handguns were a big hit in the Western U.S. as saddle guns. The Machine Gun Act of the 1930s banning stocked handguns caused them to go into hiding.
Interesting thread activity. Six years old with a couple posts then picks up again a couple weeks ago and is on the 3rd page. Strange to see zipperzap's name. He went to his reward several years ago.
I only have one firearm associated with the Nazi period. An intact K98.
He passed on huh? Sorry to hear this. Well 'zipperzap' started a great thread so lets keep it alive for em', gone but not forgotten ...my newest acquisition will be arriving soon so I'll post pictures soon. Happy hunting.
