This is the finished, still needs scope, 6.5x284 Winchester. The action is a 1945/46 over stamp Mexican short rifle Mauser made under contract in Mexico. These are interesting little actions incorporaing lots of differnt features for many sources.
The barrel is a Karl Gustav 6.5x55 military barrel rechambered. The military steps were milled off before I got the barrel so I had to draw file the flats. several hours worth of filing, very dull end mill bit. I hand polished and cold blued the barrel with Oxpho Blue paste. The case color is Steel Fx Flame chemical case color. I posted a step by step about a week ago when I did the hinged magazine/trigger guard. I am getting better with practice on that score.

The stock is another slab wood gift from Hurricane Hugo '91. Air dried Virginia walnut, with Australian red wood caps. I did a Pro 2000 glass full, two stage receiver tang/ fore end cap bed with a $1.00 bill barrel float. All I have left to do down in Texas is get it drilled and tapped for a 12X Litschert-Weaver scope. It will be ready to go deer hunting.

I still cannot get hang taking good photos. Please use the zoom, this wood is really pretty.

That stock is gorgeous! Nice looking rifle...really nice!
The key to good photos is good lighting. Build yourself an inexpensive light box (plenty of ways online) - my wife uses one for her jewelry hobby and it looks like the item is just floating in a sea of white. By changing bulbs with different K values she can add more subtlety or stark contrast.

Stock looks good!

As usual, an absolutely beautiful job. I've read that the 6.5x.284 Winchester is ballistically a great cartridge and that Norma even made it. However I guess the rebated rim has caused some feeding problems in some guns.

I like that barrel.
I like that barrel.
All things considered it came out pretty well. I whish his mill cutter had been a mite sharper. I nearly wore my arms out draw filing the tool marks out of the flats, not to mention the curve on the receiver ring. The fella that cut it almost polished out the proof marks on the bottom of the chamber shank.
:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Two thumbs up....nice save!
