I'm interested in purchasing an AK,but i want to be completely legal about it. i know that fully auto has been off limits since the 30's and semi-auto is ok. my question is what do i need to look for to ensure that i purchase a Semi-auto, good quality Ak-47? how much should i plan on spending for quality? Does any one have one for sale within 60 miles of Memphis, Tenn?

You don't have to worry about purchasing a legal one. Any full auto rifle is described as such and will cost $5 to $10k or more, depending on what kind. They have a special license.

As to the price of a semi auto, you can get one from $500 to $2500. The most expensive is the PolyTech Legend. Good used one $1800, new one $2500. There are a ton in the $500-$800 range. Some are good, some are not so good. You may want to read some reviews by AK experts.
Meanwhile go to GunBroker.com and check their auctions. There are tons up for sale.

You can pick up a Yugo or Bulgarian made AKM (stamped receiver) at just about any of those shows for between 4 and 5 hundred.

Depending on the show, it may be more difficult for you to get your hands on a AK-47 (milled receiver). The only real difference is milled vs stamped, and the M has a canted break.

Peek around on gunbroker.com or check out some local gun shows. As for legality, just make sure you get it through a dealer, and you'll be fine. Better hurry up though, before our new fearless leaders decide to ban them again.

They have a few decent ones on their site

Good Luck!
