JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) – A man who was 11 years old in 1998 when he and a friend fatally shot four students and a teacher at their Arkansas middle school has died in a crash on a northeastern Arkansas highway, the State Police said.

Drew Grant, 33, who had legally changed his name from Andrew Golden and had been living in Jackson, Missouri, died at around 9 p.m. Saturday, television station KAIT reported. The vehicle he was driving crashed head-on into another vehicle on Highway 167 near Cave City, which is about 100 miles (160 kilometers) north of Little Rock.

Three other people were injured in the crash and taken to hospitals, according to a State Police preliminary summary of the crash. It didn't say which vehicle they were in, how badly hurt they were or which vehicle was responsible for the crash.

Golden and Mitchell Johnson, who were 11 and 13 respectively, set off a fire alarm on March 24, 1998 and shot at people as they evacuated from Westside Middle School in Jonesboro, which is about 120 miles (193 kilometers) northeast of Little Rock.

Killed were 12-year-olds Paige Herring and Stephanie Johnson, 11-year-olds Brittney Varner and Natalie Brooks and teacher Shannon Wright. In 2017, a judge presiding over a lawsuit filed by the victims' families awarded them $150 million in damages.

Golden and Johnson were tried as juveniles and were expected to remain in custody until the age of 21, in accordance with Arkansas law at the time. Johnson was released in 2005, and Golden was released in 2007. Because they were tried as juveniles, their records were sealed.

They should have been executed 30 days after being found guilty

So, are you advocating executing 11 and 13 year old boys?
I hope none of the injuries are serious. He lived over twenty years longer than the people he murdered.

Anyone of that age or there about can kill INDISCRIMINATELY with prejudice and should know the difference between right and wrong no matter what race, color or creed. I believe the death penalty will make others think about that a little more before they act on their aggression..Not a video game where you get 10 lives to try and win, but real life as to how many lives lost and affected by the killings

Yes I advocate their execution and all others that are found guilty of murder..No matter the age or gender or race.

Go to any other country i the world and most kids from 5 up have a gun or know how to use it and will kill you just as fast as an adult.

There is a pretty clear middle ground between the death penalty and only serving a few short years for murdering innocent children.

I they commit murder like they did, why not? Want to keep them alive so they can get out and kill more folks, or give them a chance to breed? This wasn't some accidental event, this was a planned first degree murder event
Karma came back and took care of him.

Damn straight!
For premeditated murder yes.
For manslaughter probably not .

I think he should have died an old man in prison. As much as i hate paying for murders the rest of their lives there is nothing gained from killing an 11 year old boy.

Sure But they let him out of prison!
Do you think that a couple of years in the pen rehabilitated his sick mind.
I guarantee if karma had not killed him. We would have seen him back in the news as he destroyed more families. God knew and protected us.
If society is not going to keep people like this locked up forever, then I can see something gained by executing them .

I agree he should have never been let out. I am totally against executing a child but i could probably be easily persuaded to execute him as an adult.

I don't think you would say that if it was your wife or daughter that was killed by an 11 year old. Some people are just bad and some people just don't deserve to be left alive on earth. It cost us the taxpayers money to keep them locked up for life. Google how much per inmate at a Federal prison. Aint cheap!!

Think what you would do if you were a felon and couldn't get a job. No matter how hard you try, you would always resort back to criminal activity just to survive for you will always be rejected by society. Those kids changed their names and their records sealed, but it still didn't console the families of those killed by them.

If you are old enough to murder someone, you are no longer a child.
I will compromise with you. Keep him in prison until they are 21, then execute them as an adult.

I thought that's what i said.

Awesome! then we are in agreement.
