Yesterday, I acquired a 1928 Model 12, its not in bad shape or great shape, wondering what the best way to clean it would be, and is it still safe to fire?

That is damn nice old solid rib Model 12 shotgun. If you want it restored it will be expensive. If you do an amateur restoration in the kitchen it will be ruined. That ole Winchester tells a lot, I would cherish it as it is.:yesnod1:

Got it from my grandpa, definitely not gonna restore it, I love the worn look and it tells a story, don't know much about how to clean it, any suggestions?

Your giveted Mdle 12 is easy to clean. It is a take down. The gun was made to quickly separate in 2 pieces. This was because hunters often traveled by trains back in the day. The Mdl. 97 and Mdl. 12 could be fit into luggage for train trips. Take the gun down clean the bore with a lead and carbon remover. I would use Action Blaster also and follow up with a good gun oil.
