I noticed Springfield Armory has recently came out with a 9mm version of their Range Officer 1911. And I know there has been other 1911's available in 9mm, however I still have a hard time wrapping my brain around a 9mm 1911. Anyone else think it's odd?

I think it is crazy, Its all about money, Money, Money!

The 1911 is a historical pistol and its image sould never be altered, and it sould stay that way, how can you call a 1911 22lr a 1911 anyway or 9mm for that matter. they are not true 1911's.

I have 1911's in .22 LR, 9 mm, .38 Super, .38 Special, .40 S&W, and of course .45 ACP. It's a great design and I don't see any reason not to enjoy it in a variety calibers.

The 1911 is an excellently designed pistol. If you like the 9mm, why not try one in 1911.

My grandpa got a Sig made compact 1911 in 9mm as his new carry gun a while ago. I see nothing wrong with it as he just prefers 9mm.

When you spend years grabbing the .45ACP ammo cans for the 1911s, it's hard to change an old habit.

I have a Springfield Stainless "Loaded" 9 MM Target 1911. It runs fine, but use good magazines. The 2 Metalform magazines that came with the gun run fine, and I bought 5 extra from Dawson Precision that run good as well. The biggest problem with 9 MM 1911 magazines is the round has a tendency to "nose dive" into the chamber. Dawson and Metalform mags don't.

I have 1911s in 380 (2), 9mm (2), 40 S&W (1), and 45 acp (2), different sizes, but all run fine, two are EDC. Hard to get hung up on “1911s SHOULD be 45acp” I love them, when I pick one up, or draw it, the controls are the same. Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

A lot of original 1911's were chambered for 38 Super. It is a 9mm but unlike the rimless 9mm Luger (9x19) it is a semi-rimmed longer case (9x23 (22.75)).

I had at one time Colt 1911 Combat Commander in 9mm. Great gun, I regret selling it.

Got 3 in .45 and one in 9mm all steel frames. Recoil feels like shooting a poly .380. Very fast follow up shots. I had originally wanted a 9mm for plinking because the round was so much cheaper. Well, 2020 fixed that. Still a respectable weapon, still marginally cheaper than 45 to reload.

friend has an "iver johnson" rebranded import 9mm........best thing i can say is its a very soft shooter recoil-wise....and if you want a 1911 but with less recoil and cheaper ammo then there you go.....

sill would prefer a 38 super......just because........

I heard that they’re coming out with a new pistol. The military is going to adopt it. Seems crazy but they are going to use a .45 caliber, Semi automatic. The great thing is it can hold 7 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. Two more rounds is the cats meow. 23 skidoo! Next they should get working on a sub machine gun in that caliber. I love these old posts.

And what about us how love the 1911 and can't use 45 cal, due to accident and surgery I no longer have the strength to lift a loaded 45 cal. Never mind handle 45 cal recoil. I can use 9mm, difficult but doable. and love the 1911 design. Are you saying I can't call my gun a 1911 since it is not chambered for 45cal?
