Every 365 days you'll need to change your password. The new Admins put this in place for security reasons.

Yeah I get that.... but really what security and security from what unless we are going to need to start using a credit card to log on here in which case I am just vapor trails out of here. This seems to me to be a solution looking for a problem.

I mean I'll do it but I don't understand the need.

The problem wasn't with changing my pass word but trying to log in under the new one, one giant PITA if you ask me.
The site wouldn't recognize any, the old or the new, they sent me a temp one that didn't work and on and on it went !

Once I received my new password, I logged off the site and cleared cookies before logging in with the new password.

    Hey guys,

    I just wanted to clarify why we are being so aggressive with these security settings;

A 3rd party plugin that we and other networks use had it's developers' compromised. Their DB was breached and data was scraped.
I can't ID the plugin as it's under legal investigation. However I can say that it had access to user data because it functions separately from the vb software.
Many plugins do this, chats, news letters, mobile apps etc. This is not an active breach, however as a precaution we did initiate security updates including password changes and new pass requirements.

Their system was compromised and they grabbed user data for us and thousands of others.
We cleared our part of the breach and went this route to further security.
This is also in place as many members on the internet use the same or similar passwords across all things they use.

Hackers who have access to these accounts, may be able to access other platforms where the same email and/or passwords are used.
Other platforms have been compromised as well, including Twitter, Linkedin etc. We are just trying to get ahead of this, and nip it in the bud as soon as possible.

We cannot go into detail at the moment as it is being dealt with on a legal level.

If there are any other questions/concerns/feedback, please feel free to post them here.

Thank you for your patience and understanding,

    Richard.

Ya know what's really funny? I left a gun forum today that I had been on for several years because I did not like being told that I must change my password then and every year thereafter. It seems that forum was hacked before (supposedly) the owner sold it to a large conglomerate from Canada who owns many sites. I don't know who owns this forum, but if it is the same outfit that bought out the previous forum I am talking about, then it is obvious the hack was done after the purchase.
